 About the  Salt Satyagraha Online :

.. a reenactment of Mahatma Gandhi’s famous Salt March of 1930. The Salt March was a protest against the repressive rule of England over India, specifically focused on the British monopolly over the production and sale of salt. For this reenactment, DeLappe is walking the 240 miles of the original march on a specially converted treadmill, thus controlling the forward movement of his avatar.

« Marcher est en soi déjà un challenge, SL n’a pas été conçu pour les piétons. » En effet, l’urbanisme chaotique du monde virtuel fait qu’on se retrouve souvent dans des culs-de-sac ou carrément éjecté quand on empiète sur une propriété privée. « C’est très frustrant : cet espace présenté comme un lieu de création est devenu très commercial et uniforme, peuplé d’avatars, jeunes, beaux et grands. Comme nous exposions le travail de Joseph Delappe ,

As we managed to showcase the work of Joseph Delappe ,

less .

Anyways we had a great fun to meet there , it was the first time
that all these friends were there together .

Le concept du jeu le “Diplomate Américain” a été développé en association avec le faux*** New York Times et son édition spéciale sur la fin de la guerre , édition qui a été publiée le 12 Novembre 2008 , sur papier et en ligne.
Plus de 100 artistes et groupes d’artistes ont collaboré pour créer le faux New York Times.
J’ai proposé d’écrire un article pour le projet , détaillant l’abandon du jeu “America’s Army” au profit du jeu “Le Diplomate Américain” .
C’est un geste conceptuel d’espoir pour repenser la façon dont nos impôts sont utilisés pour créer de populaires divertissements en ligne qui sont de la propagande.
Pourquoi pas le “Diplomate Américain” ? Pourquoi “America’s Army” ? Pourquoi ne pas imaginer la création d’une plate-forme de jeux en ligne, afin d’encourager nos jeunes à envisager une coopération internationale, la négociation et la compréhension entre les cultures plutôt que ce qui existe, un jeu de tir qui présente un portrait très irréaliste du service militaire.
Au cours des deux dernières années, j’ai été impliqué dans un mémorial en ligne en forme de protestation qui a lieu au sein du jeu “America’s Army” . “Mort en Irak”, a commencé en 2006, en intervenant dans AA . Je baisse mon arme et commence à taper le nom, l’âge, la section et la date du décès de chaque personne en service tuée dans le conflit en Irak. A ce jour j’ai entré plus de 4000 noms dans le jeu.
Je vois ce nouveau projet, le “Diplomate Américain” , comme une continuation de ce travail - une façon de visualiser un modèle différent pour encourager les jeunes à servir le pays . Pour présenter une alternative conceptuelle à la stratégie attentue et acceptée de recruter des jeunes pour le service militaire par le biais d’un jeu informatique.

Personnaly , I ( Alain ) will have an exhibition with my
pupils , in june 2009 .

They worked about the thema “Travelling” and had to
take 2 sort of photos :

one simulating a travel ( but doing that from home ) ,

the second during a real travel .( school trip or family trip
)

We will exhibit some pictures in this castle near my school

I will give it to the MixED team as a great souvenir of this

We had problems with the time zones to meet ,

Media Artist Joseph DeLappe presents the first ever internet-wide global gaming voicechat singalong, the “gg hootenanny!”, a day long festival featuring songs of freedom and protest in celebration of the release of his avatar, MGandhi Chakrabarti, from his nine-month imprisonment/durational reenactment in Second Life. This is a call for participation for all gamers and residents of online communities to come together and sing!

About the Gandhi work in Second Life:
In the Spring of 2008, Joseph DeLappe/MGandhi Chakrabarti reenacted Gandhi’s famous 1930 Salt March using a treadmill converted for use in cyberspace to walk 240 miles guiding his Gandhi avatar throughout the online community of Second Life. For the past 9 months, DeLappe has continued the reenactment by imprisoning MGandhi in a virtual recreation of Mahatma Gandhi’s 1930, post-Salt March jail cell where he was held by the British from May 5, 1930 to January 26, 1931. MGandhi has sat in his virtual cell at Yeravda Prison, 24 hours a day on Odyssey Contemporary Art and Performance island in Second Life, greeting visitors and engaging in daily “readings” from the infamous Bush era “torture memos”. These performative readings, entitled “Twitter Torture” have been fed, live, from the local text chat in Second Life to DeLappe’s Twitter and Facebook updates.

Media artist Joseph DeLappe is in the midst of creating a new series of internet based works that update Albert Bierstadt’s iconic paintings of America’s west by inserting animated gif flybys of Predator and Reaper drones. Bierstadt’s highly idealized paintings are the representation of 19th century “manifest destiny” in their fantastic, virtualized representations of bucolic mountains, pioneers on the move and rapidly vanishing native cultures. Bierstadt’s work played a key role in attracting “settlers” to tame the “savage” American west. His scenes of western rapture have now been invaded by the iconic image of weaponized drones flying overhead. Idealized, imagined landscapes reified with the addition of our latest technologies of power and destruction.

L’artiste médiatique Joseph DeLappe est au milieu de la création d’une nouvelle série d’Internet les œuvres(travaux) basées qui mettent à jour les peintures iconiques d’Albert Bierstadt de l’ouest de l’Amérique en insérant les défilés aériens de Gif animés de Drones(Faux-bourdons) de moissonneuse et Prédateur. Les peintures fortement idéalisées de Bierstadt sont la représentation du 19ème siècle “le destin de manifeste” dans leurs représentations fantastiques, virtualisées de montagnes bucoliques, des pionniers en mouvement et disparaissant rapidement des cultures indigènes. Le travail de Bierstadt a joué un rôle clé dans l’attraction “de colons” pour apprivoiser l’ouest américain “sauvage”.
