Interview of Lionel
How did you discover Vrml ?
I was interrested by virtual worlds after reading a novel from Tom Clancy about that matter , and I found the site www.web3d-fr.com where the webmaster (Tarius) helped me a lot for my beginning.
When did you made this world ?
The first world I made didn’t look like something. I created it about 2 weeks after discovering the site. This world, named « l’antre » contained a gigantic house and a swimming pool with solid water.
What gave you the desire for making 3d worlds ?
Reading the book. Then, learning vrml I discover I liked this language and building a world was a first stage in this learning.
What did you use to create « P’tit Paradis » ?
P’tit Paradis is in fact my 4th world. Berfore that there was, after the very first one, le « Palais des glaces », something containing pyramidal houses, all in transparency, something full with spheres and something like a castel . To create p’tit Paradis, I used much Internet Space Builder , vrmlPad (shareware version) and the note pad of windows.
What did you think when you began the P’tit Paradis ? Did you precisely know what you wanted or did you make it progressively ?
I began by the swimming pool. The remainder came all alone progressively. I did not have any idea of what I wanted to do at the beginning but I wanted a swimming pool.
Did you ask some assistance to build it ? How did you inform yourself to be able to manage it ?
I got informations on web3d-Fr and I also used the pedagogy of the error. I.e. that I recovered vrml files and I had fun to modify the parameters to see what that made and thus to understand what was used such or such thing. Tarius helped me also well. I also asked assistance to dematerialize the water of the swimming pool, on the web3d-Fr forum.
How much versions are there from Ptit Paradis ?
Ptit-paradise exists in 3 versions and a village hall. But my preferred version remains the first, that with the swimming pool.
How many worlds did you create since that ?
Since the last version I created 5 worlds and helped to build 5 or 6 others.
When you visit this world now what do you think about it technically ?
Its difficult to answer. Ptit Paradis even if it was simple and contained some errors will stay my prefered one. Its my first real world. I spend time on it and there was something of me in it. Technically its not perfect but no one could make me change it.
And emotionnaly ?
I preceded a little this question in the preceding answer. To advance a world sufficiently to be able to put it on line brings already a certain satisfaction. See that people like it gives much pleasure. To see Ptit-paradis at the head of list quasi permanently, apart from the joy that that brought to me, always astonished me. This world is not exceptionnal compared to much others. And however, we were always 10 15 or 20. I never understood why. I remember too 2 « mega teufs » with stream audio in the village hall where there were until 54 persons together.
What do you think about vrml ? does it still have future or is it necessary to look at other things ?
Vrml is an excellent language and it suits well to our realizations. It is well accessible for the beginners without other knowledges. They just need some logic. And it still have future. It has many advantages, beginning, being free, and its simplicity. Coupled with the Javascript and the PHP, it makes it possible to do near all that one wants, from simplest to most complex. To be convinced of that, it is enough to look at the examples of the site bit-management.
What do you think about the mixed project ?
To promote the virtual worlds and the 3d on the Net in general… Excellent idea. If moreover it is managed « de main de maitre », as that seems to be, then it is royal.
